So here's the story. I ride a BMW K1200RS, about as different from a "Savage" as it's possible to be. Went looking for a bike for my new rider wife. Specs included (a) non-intimidating, (b) low seat height, (c) capable of going 70 on the superslab for at least a couple of hours, (d) light weight but stable. Ideally, it should be something she wouldn't tire of in a few months. Secret agenda included being something I'd enjoy riding.
Went through at least a dozen bikes. Everything I wanted she objected to. Most cruisers were too heavy. Few other bikes allowed her to flat foot and move the bike around the parking lot.
Looked at the few 250-500cc bikes around. None filled the bill. Then I came across the LS-650. Everything she wanted. And that great single has the added benefit of delivering power LOOOW down where it's easily managed. An absolutely PERFECT bike for a new rider, especially someone of the female persuasion. (She thinks it's "gorgeous."
Now the biggest surprise for me. This bike is a delight to ride! I realize I'm preaching to the choir on this forum, but I can't get over what a great commuter bike this makes. For short trips through the monstrous Seattle traffic, it's far better than my BMW.
Considering the splash HD has made with the Buell "Blast," I think Suzuki is missing the boat in not promoting the LS-650 as an ideal bike for beginners. (Not to mention the enjoyment it provides for some of us who've been riding for many years.)
